From Concept to 3D Gaussian Splat
Built by the team at Volinga, this project explores an end-to-end workflow for transforming AI-generated concept art into fully explorable 3D Gaussian Splat environments inside Unreal Engine.
The Workflow
The experiment combines AI image generation, panorama conversion, world reconstruction, and real-time rendering into a streamlined spatial production pipeline.
- AI-generated concept art
- 360° panorama conversion
- Real-time 3D Gaussian Splat generation
- Unreal Engine rendering and refinement
The goal was to test how quickly a production-ready environment could move from idea to immersive 3D scene while maintaining creative control throughout the process.
How It Works
The workflow begins with concept generation using NanoBanana, followed by conversion into a seamless equirectangular panorama. That panorama is processed through World Labs to generate a 3D Gaussian Splat environment.
The generated splat scene is then imported directly into Unreal Engine using Volinga’s plugin, enabling real-time lighting, scene refinement, and cinematic rendering workflows.
Stack
- NanoBanana for AI image generation
- Marble / World Labs for 3D Gaussian Splat reconstruction
- Unreal Engine for rendering and scene refinement
- Volinga plugin for splat import and editing
What’s Next
- Higher-resolution scene generation
- Improved lighting and shadow fidelity
- Expanded workflows for virtual production and cinematic environments
Additional demos and workflow experiments available through Volinga.
