Dormant Memories
Dormant Memories explores how real captured spaces can become the foundation for alternate realities using Marble, Gaussian splats, and real-time browser rendering. Built by Hugues Bruyère, chief technologist, innovator, and co-founder of Dpt.
The Experience
The project begins with a real-world location captured as a 3D Gaussian Splat. Marble is then used to generate transformed versions of that same space while preserving its original structure and atmosphere.
- Real captured environments
- Marble-generated alternate worlds
- Portal-based transitions between realities
The result feels less like moving between scenes and more like stepping between parallel versions of the same place.
How It Works
Captured environments are reconstructed through a Gaussian splat pipeline, transformed with Marble, and rendered in the browser using Spark and Three.js.
Custom portal systems and real-time visual effects allow users to move seamlessly between the original capture and generated variations.
Stack
- Real-world capture + Gaussian splat reconstruction
- Marble for world transformation and expansion
- Spark for real-time splat rendering
- Three.js for portals, interaction, and visual FX
What’s Next
- Deeper editing and control over generated worlds
- Expanded spatial storytelling and hidden-space exploration
- More real-time interaction and physical interfaces
