Painted Lineage
Built by artist Aditya Kumar, Painted Lineage is the third work in the Painted trilogy, following Painted Time. It takes a single painting — Pierre Bonnard's The Green Blouse (1919, the Metropolitan Museum of Art) — and renders its provenance as traversable space.
The Experience
A catalogue records provenance as a flat column of dates and venues. Painted Lineage decompresses that list back into geography and time.
- A globe carries all 31 exhibitions across 12 countries (1924–2025) as pins, connected by a single chronological path
- Ten pins open into walkable worlds — from the studio at Le Cannet to the galleries that showed the painting — each with period-true spatial sound
- The painting's 35 years outside the public record (1939–1974) become the largest room and the only silent one
How It Works
Two rendering modes share one Three.js application. The globe is ordinary geometry — pins and path generated from a single data model of the 31 exhibitions — while the worlds are Marble-generated Gaussian splat environments streamed one at a time through Spark.
