STARSPEED: Zero-G Aerial Combat
Built by Webby-winning artist and developer James Kane, STARSPEED is a fast-paced multiplayer spaceship shooter set inside massive sci-fi environments rendered through Gaussian splats and realtime web technologies.
The Experience
Inspired by classic shooters like Descent and DOOM, the project explores how large-scale generative 3D worlds can support realtime gameplay, multiplayer combat, and cinematic storytelling directly in the browser.
- Zero-gravity multiplayer combat
- Kilometer-scale sci-fi environments
- Browser-native gameplay across desktop and mobile
The game combines fast movement, synthwave-inspired aesthetics, and story-driven campaign sequences inside worlds composed of more than 100 million Gaussian splats.
How It Works
Marble was used to rapidly prototype and generate large-scale environment concepts, which were refined and stitched together into modular game spaces.
Spark.js and Three.js render splat environments alongside traditional 3D assets, while Colyseus powers multiplayer networking, matchmaking, and realtime game state synchronization.
Stack
- Marble for environment generation and iteration
- Spark.js + Three.js for realtime rendering
.radsplat workflows for large-scale scenes- Colyseus for multiplayer networking and matchmaking
- SuperSplat for splat editing, trimming, and stitching
What’s Next
- Larger procedural world generation systems
- More advanced 3DGS lighting and rendering workflows
- Expanded cinematic storytelling and multiplayer gameplay
